Bears and Brasov

"Mom, are there bears in Romania?" Ava queried as we drove through the woodsy hills on the way to Peles castle. "Oh, there aren't any bears at the castle sweetheart. Don't worry." 30 seconds later, we see the warning signs posted to the trees: "Pericol Ursi!" written underneath a picture of a snarling bear. "Ava is a Brown" sighed Schatzi. There were bear warning signs everywhere, but more dangerous are probably the packs of "community dogs", ie strays, that are much larger out here in the woods than in the city. Still, we gave our lunch leftovers to the dogs hanging outside the restaurant, that's why they're there afterall.

The gondola ride that almost never was. When we first boarded the gondola, we took our seats and then it stopped. We waited, thinking this stop was a kind gesture to allow us to get the children settled. No. The gondola had stopped unexpectedly. After quite some time, the operators finally asked us to get off. They did get it running, super slow, and were able to unload the other cars/cabins. So we bravely returned the next day and it was smooth sailing.

At the top.

The girls posing in the main square of Brasov. We went to church in Brasov and terrorized sacrament meeting: Imagine a chapel with a tile floor, Audrey's hard soled patent leather shoes (tap, tap, tap), no other children in the congregation, and did I mention Audrey was tired and hungry. Ay, ay ay. Anyhow, Brasov is a lovely, quaint city, with a lot of German influence in the architecture.
