Saturday morning we headed up to Sinaia (about 2 hours north of Bucharest) to visit the lovely Peles Castle. It was a picture perfect autumn day. I must have commented on the beautiful fall foliage a hundred times. Peles is one of the nicest 19th century castles we've toured anywhere. The interior is stunning: the original furnishings are intact and well-preserved, showing what a splendid royal home this was once upon a time.

The architect of Peles was Austrian . . . can't you tell?

Schatzi and Snookie take in the statue of King Carol, who built Peles.

We ate lunch on the terrace of a nearby ski lodge and enjoyed the view.

Grounds full of lions.
