La Multi Ani Audrey!

She's FINALLY three! It seems like Audrey has been two forever . . . or rather, she just seems wise beyond her years, so now she's catching up. Audrey spent her birthday morning opening presents in the hotel room.

The coveted cell phone . . . it's all she really wanted (I guess she's been missing the five or so toy phones she had to leave in San Francisco . . . now the count is up to three in Romania)

Note the balloons and streamers that mommy positioned while everyone was asleep so Audrey would wake up and know it was her day.

Then it was off to the Hofburg and the morning training session of the Lipizzaner stallions at the Spanische Hofreitschule. There we are outside the entrance to the palace grounds.

The arena is wunderschoen! Audrey sat in the front row with a stranger who kindly offered the spot on her lap! Audrey chatted animatedly about her birthday and was truly enjoying her day.

Lunch at Demel's (imperial chocolatier). Daddy and the girls enjoy the Viennese cafe culture. The other day Audrey asked to go eat at the place with the pumpkin soup. This is that place and the soup was excellent! (Sadly, a little too far from Bucharest to fulfill Audrey's request.)

Audrey selects her chocolates.

Steering clear of chocolate, Ava found a marshmallow mushroom (Glueckspilze are everywhere--they are a traditional symbol of good luck and fortune popular especially around New Year's.)

A Viennese beauty.

After lunch we hit the Christmas market at Schoenbrunn Palace.

We tried the apple cinnamon pretzel . . . and a Kaesebrotscheibe, and Schlumpfnudeln and . . . snacking at the Christmas markets is the best!

Warming up with hot cocoa.

Last call for ornaments.

Enjoying the Christmas carols played by the brass band.

Inside the children's museum where you can learn what it was like to grow up in the imperial household.

Audrey's five o'clock shadow is actually from the hot chocolate.

Happy Birthday Boo! (I think she had three or four pieces of Sacher torte during the trip.) We sang in English, German, and Romanian!
