After finally escaping the airport, our first stop Wednesday was the enchanting Burg Eltz in the beautiful Mosel river region. Audrey is not a fan of suits of armor. "I want to go home" (repeated every 10 seconds throughout the tour.) At least we had the excuse that she was exhausted (true; yet her behavior would be the same well-rested!)
After our castle romp, we drove through the lovely Mosel valley which is dotted with castles overlooking the river. We stayed the night in a classic 1960s vintage hotel that was constructed to resemble the old interiors of carved wood and gemutlichkeit (coziness) of the half-timber buildings. Dinner at the hotel was super: Bratkartoffeln, Schweinesteak mit Pfifferlinge-Sosse, warm- und kalt Salat, und Kinderschnitzel for the girls. (Basically lots of potatoes, butter and pork).
